Press Release: The Upcoming Who Is Becky Contest
Satisfies Hamilton’s Curiosity About “The Becky Sign”
Hamilton, MT – On Tuesday, August 4, almost one hundred Hamilton residents will be wearing Do You Know Becky? t-shirts all over town. Coordinated marquee signs on 93 will say “whoisbecky.com”. Becky T-shirt wearers will be snapping photos that best illustrate the caption, “Irrefutable proof… that Becky is real” then tagging Reliance Auto on social media. The photo that gets liked the most on Facebook will win a Year Long Reliance Auto Car Repair Package valued at $500.
“It started 5 years ago when my mom told my dad to change the sign in front of the shop. So he did and it read, ‘Becky said to change the sign’”, says TJ Brough, co-owner of Reliance Auto and Lube Quick. “Since then, he made jokes about her on the sign every week and the sign has taken on a life of its own.”
The infamous Becky sign has been making northbound 93 drivers laugh out loud for half a decade, however, most Ravalli County residents don’t know if she is a real person or a fictional character.
On Tuesday, August 4, the city of Hamilton will be finding out just how real she is.
“Everyone always asks if I’m Becky,” says Maggie Petrey, co-owner of Reliance Auto and Lube Quick, “but I just tell them no, Becky is my mom. Everyone wants to know how she feels about the signs and I tell them she’s been married to my dad for 40 years which is why his jokes don’t bother her at all”.
•The contest ends at midnight on August 4. Prizes valued over $700 will be awarded to the following photos snapped by Becky T-shirt wearers:
1. The Most Photo Likes on Facebook
2. Most Unique Photo
3. Most Creative Photo
4. Becky’s Favorite
•On August 4, stores with marquee signs on 93 will all say “whoisbecky.com” in a coordinated fashion so everyone who drives on 93 will see the same message
•The wait staff at various restaurants and breweries in Hamilton will all be wearing Who is Becky shirts on Tuesday, August 4.
•T-shirts are free while supplies last. Anyone can get one by stopping by Reliance Auto. If the supply runs out, you can contribute to one of the charities Reliance Auto supports and they will send you a t-shirt for next month’s contest
•Going forward, the Who Is Becky T-shirt contest is a recurring event scheduled for the first Tuesday of every month. A new caption and various prizes will be awarded each month.
